The Department of Accounting  is committed to delivering high-quality education and professional training in the fields of accounting, finance, and financial management. The department offers both the Bachelor of Science in Accounting (BSc Accounting) and the Diploma in Financial Accounting, designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and ethical grounding required in today’s dynamic financial environment.

The BSc Accounting is a comprehensive four-year degree programme that provides an in-depth understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, auditing, taxation, and financial management. It explores how individuals, businesses, and organizations manage financial resources and comply with regulatory frameworks, while also examining the impact of global financial trends on economic development. The programme combines theoretical foundations with practical application through case studies, accounting software, and real-world scenarios, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for professional roles in accounting, auditing, and finance.

In addition, the Diploma in Financial Accounting offers students fundamental knowledge and practical competencies in accounting and financial practices. It covers key areas such as bookkeeping, preparation of financial statements, basic taxation, and the use of accounting systems. The diploma is examined by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi, ensuring that the programme meets recognized professional standards and enhances graduates’ credibility and employability in the accounting profession. The diploma serves both as a standalone qualification for entry-level positions and as a stepping stone for further studies in accounting and related disciplines.

Through these programmes, the department aims to produce competent, ethical, and industry-ready graduates who are capable of contributing effectively to financial management, organizational accountability, and economic growth.
